Headboards with Floating Nightstands: Space-Saving Furniture that Works the Night Shift
Nightstands are an important addition to your bedroom, as we all have a nightly ritual, be it late-night indulgences in a best selling page-turner or needing a spot for beverages and medication. Headboards with attached nightstands work overtime providing form and function, proving to be your best investment. Add beauty to the mix and you'll be in love with your result.
I'm a big fan of dual-purpose furniture pieces, especially where your floor space is at a premium in smaller spaces. I'll show you several headboards with attached/floating nightstands along with a few valuable tips to transform your tired space into a fabulous retreat you'll love retreating to when you're tired.
Let's get started.
Your Decor & Budget: Keeping it Real with Budget-Friendly Headboards with Nightstands Attached

What's Your Style? Finding Your Decor Genre
You've more than likely settled on a decor style for your bedroom. These type headboards with their attached nightstands are best suited for contemporary and modern decor.
I was happy to find this headboard that can support less-formal arrangements and you may get by with adding a few traditional pieces without a majorly confused state of affairs. I love the two floating nightstands with a convenient drawer in each one. The space looks uber-tidy ad the floor space is free.
Furniture pieces like this one, that have several 'personalities' make great investments--especially if you are inclined to change out your style more often than most.
You might opt for the platform bed that completes the look; you'll save on your budget, as you won't need a box spring.
Let your bedding, accessories and wall art define your room's genre and you're good to go.

Budget-Friendly Headboards with Floating/Attached Nightstands
One of my favorite things to do while in the planning stages of design is to find pieces that are comparable to their pricier cousins. So, it's only natural that I always include those budget-friendly headboards with floating nightstands, as keeping things real with spending plays an important role in enjoying your decor.
Overspending can really dampen your spirit. I know; I've done just that: spent too much and could never fully enjoy my efforts knowing I paid too much for it. There's always a comparable piece if you look for it. I call it 'the thrill of the hunt."
While you may have to sacrifice a few things, you can realize a close second,, which I'll gladly accept in lieu of regret. I've included an alternative to expensive headboards with integrated nightstands further down, but if it's the real deal you're after, here's a few designer-look headboards that are hard to pass over (prepare to be tempted beyond chocolate cake).
Headboard with Nightstands Attached: Built-In Nightstands with Drawers
Headboard with Attached NightstandsIf a headboard with floating nightstands aren't a must-have, this unit may suit you well.
I like the idea of a headboard with built-in nightstands where their storage drawers are plenty big enough. If you prefer a different color nightstand, opt for the paint I'll talk about below. The headboard and its built-in drawer nightstands is plenty cheap enough to warrant the paint job. You might even want to get crafty and use tape to create striped detailing for a custom look. This headboard looks fabulous if you have a bed consisting of the mattresses and the frame only.
Headboard with Floating Nightstands: a Cheaper Alternative
Getting Crafty: a Fabulous Alternative to Headboards with Built-In NightstandsI'm the quintessential cheapskate and the only exceptions to my thriftiness are buying gifts and tipping . . . but back to nightstands and headboards:
I spotted these uber-cool, fabulously modern, floating shelves that'll work as nightstands when hung at the ideal level bedside your headboard. The shelves would look very much like integrated nightstands without the larger price tag and the floating shelves are open for a great option to show off your prized collection--whatever that collection is. Mine would be my Italian glass. I bet you can envision your faves on these shelves.

White Floating Shelves Make Great Alternative to Integrated Headboard Nightstands
Here's the above style floating shelves in white if your needs aren't of the 'dark-hued' variety.
Still not your color? Today's spray paints aren't the paints of the '80s. I suggest a plastic spray paint that will actually meld with the shelves coating without peeling and flaking. You'll have the color you need, the modern nightstands you're after and a price that can't be beat. Plus, you can double up the floating shelves for even more storage space
The Whole Shebang: Platform Beds with Attached Nightstands (warning: uber-hard to resist)
Attached Nightstands: Platform Bed with Integrated Nightstands
This is one total fab platform bed with the headboard we love and those sleek-and-modern attached nightstands. Platform beds complement a minimalist or semi-so decor genre. This headboard's nightstands have the appearance they're floating and work well to keep the look with their small bases. I'm thinking New York high rise, are you?

Modern Design: Less is Indeed More
Modern Platform Bed with Integrated Nightstands
Platform beds promise to keep the eye longer with their unique look that's pure WOW! If budget allows, goes 'full throttle' and you'll have a fabulous start, for sure.
Wherever you've an amazing piece, they'll serve as the space's showstoppers; so, it's best to use minimally-appointed accessories, otherwise, highly ornate pieces will dilute that wow factor you'd achieved with the headboard and nightstands.
Modern palettes have both a simple scale while being quite sophisticated overall. With modern design, less is definitely more. You'll want your bed to take center stage and as few supporting 'co-stars' in supporting roles. The eye should move about your space with ease.
To break up any sameness, I suggest having a few pieces that ave elements of surprise, like black and white posters with an unexpected splash of color to break up any monotony. Use shiny, metal finishes and glossy black and whites in accessories like vases and other vessels and lighting.
Keep things simple and your result will reward you with a sophisticated result.
And remember: Less is more.
Taking Off Your Furniture's Harsh Lines
Round Bed with Attached Nightstands
Modern furniture can be quite abrupt--literally--with all the straight lines, often resulting in a cold space that's somewhat harsh.
I'm thinking cocktail party with the most uptight-of-guests-ever-on-the -planet. Not good for the peaceful boudoir retreat you've long been pining for.
Enter round furniture pieces to the rescue [enter your own come-to-the-rescue theme song, here].
Seriously, arched pieces furniture like this round bed can be a welcome interruption to all those harsh lines that are hallmark to modern design. And since balance is so important to a tranquil space, it only makes sense to include a few round pieces into your bedroom, a most personal space.
Wan White? Not So Fast: White Headboards with Attached Nightstands
Modern Platform Bed with Attached FloatingNightstands
The Many Shades of White and it's Options for Decor
I can see any of these beds being paired with animal print bedding sporting a plush pile. I've seen faux mink in black , white and brown that would work fabulously with any of these headboards.
Or, you can opt for the vibrant colors like the red and yellow hues
Not feeling it with color?
Not a problem: with white as a backdrop, you'll have your pick of the rainbow. Instead of the wan, unassuming addition, you've a sophisticated 'blank slate' in which to build your dream room; it's all about what you love, so make your space truly your own.
Modern Asian Style Platform Bed with Built-In Nightstands Attached
Low-Profile, Asian-Style Nightstands: A Lesson in Complexity
Asian decor has so much to offer: mystery, complexity, simplicity and a style all its own. Low profile furniture pieces make the ideal candidate in your bedroom design, much like this platform bed with its sleek headboard and built-in, 'floating' nightstands I'm absolutely in love with.
With such low profile pieces, adding over-sized works of art make a huge statement as focal point. I'd opt for a single piece of art on the accent wall above the bed (not too high above the headboard) instead of several smaller pieces hung in an arrangement. Unframed, canvas art works best for the minimal look Asian themes necessitate. I'd love to see an abstract of bamboo above the bed with uplights placed on the floor behind the bed for an upward glow that's simple, yet striking.
Modern Platform Bed with Integrated/Attached Floating Nightstands
With Asian decor, you definitely want to go the less is more route. A bedroom with minimal appointments is your best bet for a restful look and feel. Bedrooms with lots to accessories and busy prints will result in a cluttered look that's not at all what you want in a retreat. You'll want a place to retreat to and not from!
In all, a low profile, with minimal fuss makes for the best result and having a headboard with nightstands built-in makes for a successful finish.
Accessories for Your Headboard
Accessories should, as I mentioned, support your theme and not swallow your room's focal point: the bed. Modern decor works well where there's a balance of textures: metals, glossies, smoothness and depth.
Flokati Rugs Work Well with Modern Headboards & Floating Furniture
Pair up your bed with a plush, flokati rug like this one to add warmth and texture. You can easily envision digging your toes into it. Rugs are great for contributing a contrasting element to the smooth and sleek elements of modern pieces which if used in excess can result in a flat, cold effect that's neither welcoming or cozy.
Mix the fru fru with finite lines; it's opposition at it's best.
Lighting can be finished with nickel or chrome; glass is a great choice, too for adding balance with its smooth surface and unexpected color. Use several low profile pieces to one pop of color.
Modern Wall Art Decals: Hang Above Headboards
Black & White Wall Art and a Word on Accessorizing
These black and white New York City wall decals make for an amazing accent wall along with your headboard. Metal based lamps are an ideal match, too, and are best-suited with a modern decor palette.
Tuck a plush area rug like the flokati (I talked about, above) on the diagonal just under the bed and you'll create the illusion of more square footage if your room is smallish. Mirrors help, too in 'creating' light and space in your bedroom.
Balance, balance, balance and you'll have a cohesive, pulled-together room you'll love retreating to come the end of a busy day.
